A recent feature in Psychology Today about bone-building workouts listed pilates as "joint-nurturing" exercise. "Build muscle strength to support your joints through gentle weight-bearing activities like pilates."

IDEA Fitness Journal's June article Pilates Equipment, Liability & Safety featured several quotes from Lindsay Merrithew, president and CEO of STOTT PILATES. "Many studio owners try to fit as much equipment as possible in a small space, but you don't want to learn about liability the hard way,"


Elizabeth Hurley and Nicole Kidman were among the winners of the InStyle magazine reader survey on Hollywood's Hottest Bodies. Both credit pilates for their long, strong and lean frames.

STARTING POSITION
1 SEATED on mat, feet hip-distance apart on top of Foam Roller with knees bent. Arms straight in front, shoulder height. Spine curved forward in C-shape with abdominals contracted.


EXERCISE
To prepare, INHALE

2 EXHALE Keeping curve of the spine, roll lower back toward mat and simultaneously roll foam roller slightly away by pushing with feet.


EXERCISE cont'd
3 INHALE Keep curve of spine and return to starting position and simultaneously pull foam roller toward you with your feet.


Complete 5-8 repetitions
