One Leg Kick photos at right
STARTING POSITION
Front of body facing mat with legs on mat. Upper body propped up off mat, supported on forearms/elbows. Keep spine as neutral as possible, in one long line from tailbone to crown. Legs are together and parallel, toes gently pointed. Front of hips off mat and pubic bone on mat. Scapulae stabilized.
EXERCISE
To prepare, INHALE, then..
EXHALE stabilize pelvis as one knee bends twice with controlled pulses (first pulse, point foot; second, flex foot).
INHALE straighten knee, pointing foot as leg returns to mat.
Repeat entire sequence with other leg.
Complete 5 to 8 repetitions on each side.
FOCUS
-- Maintain abdominal, gluteal and hamstring contraction with a feeling of pressing pubic bone into mat, to prevent pelvis from tilting forward
-- avoid tension in neck and sinking into shoulders by maintaining scapular stabilization.
-- maintain one line throughout spine.
